Product Description
Kingston's SSDNow mS100 is 8 times smaller than a traditional 2.5-inch hard drive, making it perfect for hard drive replacements in small form factor or embedded system builds. It works with Intel's Smart Response Technology to deliver the performance of an SSD with the large capacity and low cost of a hard drive. Intel's technology recognizes frequently accessed data and copies them to the SSD (SSD caching). This decreases system, application and frequently accessed software load times.

By powerop
This works as a 2nd internal hard drive in my lenovo u450p laptop! I was in need of extra storage space without resorting to external or networked drives and took a chance with this mSata SSD. I'm really glad I did. There was a single empty space underneath the laptop for a "Mini PCI ExpressCard slot compartment" per the laptop's manual that "houses the computer's Mobile Broadband card (WWAN) or SSD card (specific models only)." I hoping mine was one of those specific models. It was.Installation was quick. Inserted the Kingston mSSD just like a memory stick and clamped it down with two little screws. Be forewarned that the package does not come with screws.. you must provide your own. Turned on the computer and hoped that it would recognize the mSata SSD. It did NOT work ...at least not initially. When windows booted up, my laptop recognized that a new component was installed and even correctly identified it as Kingston SMS100S264G in the Device Manager, but the problem was that the drive didn't show up in the "My Computer" folder. The solution was to inititialize the disk. I right-clicked "My Computer" > clicked "Manage" > selected "Disk Management" under the "Storage" folder on the left-side panel, and began the process of inititializing the disk. First it asked what kind of partition table to structure the drive: MBR or GPT. Either one will work, GPT or GUID Partition Table is the newer protocol that allows modern versions of Windows to recognize hard drives larger than 2TB. MBR or Master Boot Record is limited to 2TB, but it doesn't matter for this size mSATA SSD. Next, the drive needed to be allocated/partitioned so I chose just one Simple Volume to utilize the drive space. I assigned it a Drive letter (whatever is available) and Quick Formatted it as NFTS, and then I was done. It properly shows up as a usuable drive in "My Computer". Hooray!Performance is quite good for mSata connection on my, supposedly, Mini PCI ExpressCard slot. I ran a benchmark test using AS SSD and got the following results (keep in mind that this is not through the computer's main Sata connection):___________[ READ ]________[ WRITE ]___________ Seq: 241 MB/s _____ 170 MB/s ___________ 4K: 12 MB/s ______ 27 MB/s ______ 4K-64thrd: 56 MB/s ______ 44 MB/s _______ Acc time: 0.145 ms _____ 0.130 ms ___Not too shabby. It is almost saturating a Sata 2 bandwidth for sequential Read. One more thing worth mentioning is that even though it is labeled as 64GB, in reality you get around 60GB worth of usuable space, but thats typical with all hard drives. Overall, its a satisfying purchase worth a recommendation if you are in the market for a mSata SSD.

By David Perkins
SSDNow mS100 is NOT compatible physically with the HP Pavilion HPE h8-1214 Desktop PC's (Angelica Gigabyte motherboard). The SSDNow does not fit in the short "expansion slots" nor does it work in the HPE "mini-card interface." While theseexpansion slots look similar to mSATA, d'uh me, they are not the same thing.Note: The SSDNow mS100 ONLY fits a "mini-card interface" which is longer than the standard short-expansion slot. While the SSDNow is electronically compatible and will fit into a PCIe "mini card interface," the SSDNow will NOT work asit requires a SATA controller, not a PCI host controller - Yes, another D'uh moment! My computer does have a "mini-card interface" that is the correct SIZE, unfortunately, it is a PCI slot and I will have to RMA.The SSDNow is a very nice, compact piece of hardware that would have enhanced this (entry level) Pavilion's performance, but sadly it's not to be.All I can add is make certain your main board says "mini card" and SATA, not "PCI Express mini card."7/12/12 EDIT: Correction - While my statement is accurate about the "PCI Express mini card" slot not working with SSDNow in my AMDchip set mainboard, this is not the case for newer Intel chip set boards and does NOT apply to all "Mini PCI Express Cardslots." It depends upon your I/O Controller chip set. The Intel I/O Controller Hub (ICH9) functions as botha PCIe and accelerated SATA Controller, so the SSDNow may work in your "Mini PCI ExpressCard slot" if your chip setsupports dual I/O functions to this slot.

Before installing this device, our W520 took minutes to start up. With this SSD, it's now seconds! It was a bit of a pain re-installing everything, but well worth the effort in the improved start up times.
