By Heather Kent
I ordered eight of these SSDs to replace the mechanical drives in the notebooks of our most mobile users. Out of these drives, one failed right out of the box. I realize new hardware sometimes arrives with issues so I simply sent it back for a new one. After installing the first one, I was astounded by the speed of these drives and very happy with the results. I promptly installed the rest of the drives in the other user's systems and everything seemed to go great. Two weeks later, I had a user come to me with his system because he was getting a 'non-system disk or disk error' message. The computer was no longer detecting the drive in the system. I took it out and connected it to my desktop as a secondary drive. Nope, nothing there. I finally attached it to a USB adapter and still nothing. The drive was dead. Before the end of that week, I had two more failures identical to the first.I contacted OCZ for support and told them the issue. I asked if there was anything I could do to get the computer to recognize the drive so I could recover some of the information. They promptly told me they could replace the drives but I would have to use a third party to try to recover the data. They didn't even answer my question or attempt any troubleshooting.I've sent the drives in for RMA replacement but I simply don't trust their drives at this point. So far as I'm concerned, these drives are time bombs just waiting for another failure. I was fortunate in that I kept the user's old hard drives and was able to recover their data up until the point where I switched them to the SSD but all the new data was lost.If OCZ had done any troubleshooting to try to fix the problem then this would be a two star review; a three star review if they had fixed the issue. If you can get this drive and keep it running then they are amazing. However, can you really take that chance?Heather(Some extra information: All these drives were at the latest firmware revision. I could not get the firmware to update from XP and had to use a Linux boot disk to update the firmware. The drive was not even seen by the firmware updater in XP.)7/18/2011 UpdateAnother one of these drives died with the same issue. The computer doesn't even detect the drive is installed. I'm going to remove all these drives from our systems and put in a more reliable Kingston or Intel SSD.

I put this guy in my 2007 macbook and wow! Installation was a breeze and once it was format I was shocked at the speed. Programs and documents load incredibly fast! now i did research and these were highly rated and speed was very fast. I also learned though that SSD's should not be filled past 80 percent capacity otherwise speed will slow to a crawl so be warned.

People aren't joking when you read online that you can boot Windows 7 in like 19seconds. Holy Cow.Applications are a breeze on this thing, just works, period. If you're a first time buyer like me I highly recommend checking out:[...]Check out the Optimization Guide, really good read, even if you don't have a SSD yet can give you an edge on your HHD setup at the moment.Otherwise great product, I cashed in on my rebate since I bought it back in April. Thanks OCZ and Amazon. It's a good day.
