By John Harris
Good price for what I got. Unit worked perfectly and was exactly what I'd hoped it would be. The packaged imaging software is garbage so I ended up using EaseUS Todo Backup to mirror my existing C: drive onto the SSD which was an easy and flawless process. But, the SSD is what I paid for and I'm very satisfied. I only wish they were cheaper in the larger capacities

No firmware update required. The drive arrived with firmware 5.0.6. The ADATA web site listed 5.0.7a as current, but after downloading, it turns out this update is not applicable to this drive, so no update needed. To use the firmware updater, shutdown and disconnect the SSD SATA cable. The Linux updater requires a 32-bit user space, so I booted a 32-bit Linux thumb drive. Run the updater as root, then plug in the drive SATA cable and click on refresh in the updater. If this sequence isn't followed, the drive doesn't appear in the updater.Under Linux (Fedora 19 x86_64, 3.10-rc6 kernel), connected to a SATA 3.0 port:# hdparm -tT /dev/sdb/dev/sdb: Timing cached reads: 4836 MB in 2.00 seconds = 2419.73 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 1088 MB in 3.00 seconds = 362.51 MB/seconds# dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/null bs=1M count=50005000+0 records in5000+0 records out5242880000 bytes (5.2 GB) copied, 14.584 s, 359 MB/sSmartctl confirms the drive is operating at 6Gb/s SATA 3.0:# smartctl -i /dev/sdbsmartctl 6.1 2013-03-16 r3800 [x86_64-linux-3.10.0-0.rc6.git0.2.fc20.x86_64] (local build)Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===Device Model: ADATA SP900Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLU WWN Device Id: 0 000000 000000000Firmware Version: 5.0.6User Capacity: 64,023,257,088 bytes [64.0 GB]Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physicalRotation Rate: Solid State DeviceDevice is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall]ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS, ACS-2 T13/2015-D revision 3SATA Version is: SATA 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s)Local Time is: Thu Jun 20 14:08:28 2013 EDTSMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.SMART support is: EnabledThe 3.5" adapter that came with the drive is plastic, and did not fit in my drive tray (too short). I purchased an inexpensive two-drive metal mount here at Amazon that fit perfectly. I prefer the metal mount in any case, as it also acts as a heat sink.

I'm using it in an older Thinkpad (so I am not seeing all the speed it is capable of, just SATA 2). 64GB is plenty of room for running Ubuntu.
