5Worth every penny
By Lurick
Had this drive for a few weeks now and so far I don't have a single complaint about the drive. Its everything you could ever ask for in a drive and it delivers without questions. Install of Windows 7 and moving my stuff over from my other drive was also very simple.Boot time has speed up a phenomenal amount over my old 7200RPM drive. From the login screen until the desktop is fully loaded up takes under 10 seconds where it used to take around a minute or more. From POST until everything is fully ready to go is about 35 seconds or less. Loading of programs is also much faster as well, especially for large programs such as Photoshop. They take just a couple of seconds to load instead of 30 seconds or more. Other factors do play a part in opening and loading programs as well but drive speed is a major factor as you will see when switching to the drive.Drives should be shipped with the latest firmware but make sure you double check. Upgrading the firmware of the drive is not supposed to cause any data loss however it is possible. The best thing to do if your planning to upgrade would be to install the drive as a secondary drive, use the OCZ utility to upgrade the firmware, and then (re)install the operating system and move everything over to the new drive. This drive provides plenty of space and speed to really boost performance in your computer. Its very quiet and consumes minimal power. Plenty of room on this drive to install Windows 7, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and an array of other programs and still leave you with some room to breath. Unfortunately if your an avid video game player with lots of games then most of your games are going to need to be installed on another, larger, hard drive unless of course you have a couple grand to spend on a 500GB or 1TB solid state drive.I would like to mention one last thing. You do NOT need any special SATA II branded cable or any of that junk and anyone trying to tell you otherwise is just out to fool you. The speed over any SATA cable is determined by the host controller and the drive speed not some specially branded cable. There is NO difference in the cables aside cost. Using your current SATA cable will not magically cut down the speed of this drive as some reviewer has tried to make you believe.

5One of the best upgrades for your computer
By IowaBuyer
I was looking for a good upgrade for my 2.5 year old computer. I had a copy of Windows 7 64-bit waiting to be installed, but that alone wasn't enough to justify the pain of installing a new operating system. As I started digging further, I read some reviews of OCZ Technology Vertex 2 SSD drives and was convinced this was the missing component to revitalizing my computer. Turns out...I was right!I physically installed the new SSD (OCZ's Vertex 2 90GB drive) in my computer's desktop case, which was a snap since it's a 3.5" version, so no mounting brackets needed.Word of caution- if you have a laptop, look at the 2.5" version. From my understanding they're basically the same performance-wise except for the size but an easy mistake to make if you aren't careful.Another word of caution- make sure you have a SATA II cable on hand. I purchased one by TrippLite specifically because it was rated for SATA II speeds. If you get a cable that's only rated for SATA (but not SATA II), you'll be limiting the amazing speeds of this drive by almost 50%.After installation, I changed my computer's BIOS to use ACHI as the method to interface with my hard drives instead of IDE since ACHI is faster. With that in place, I loaded up Windows 7 64-bit. I also don't want to forget to mention you should check OCZ's website for a firmware update. The last one for this drive was in June, but before you use it, check their site in the event there is an update that could cause data loss.Prior to the new SSD, I was running Vista with a standard 500 GB Seagate hard drive. I believe the Windows Experience Index (WEI) rating was around a 5. After running WEI again in Windows 7, it jumped to 7.7! That's all fine and good, but how does it perform? Great!I've been running the drive for a few days now, and boot times are fast. Applications run very quickly, and I especially notice how snappy windows load on the screen. I'm sure some of this can be attributed to Windows 7, but this fast hard drive is quiet, low-power, reliable, and ultra fast.Pros:*Very, very fast*Silent*Low power usage (2 watts!)Cons:*No SATA cable included*May need a firmware update from OCZ's website*Requires Windows 7 or another OS (Ubuntu?) to support TRIM to keep the drive working quickly or you'll experience slowdowns over time*Small drive size compared to regular hard drives

5Amazing performance, great value
By Shane Conder
I got a pair of these for a pair of shiny new desktops. The new desktops initially booted in about 100 seconds (including post time) and now boot into Windows 7 in under 30 seconds. Impressive!Haven't had them long enough to discuss longevity or other usage-based performance considerations. Will monitor the overall performance for the next few months, though.Don't forget, these are 3.5" drives. That's great for a standard desktop. These particular ones have a good value for their capacity, at this moment in time, and there's little reason to spend extra on 2.5" drives for desktop use.Absolutely no problems with detection, Windows installation, or use as a boot drive. It's still a luxury, but better matches drive performance to other system components and improves the overall system responsiveness. Not much else to say... in the end, it's just a faster drive.
