5Huge upgrade for Thinkpad X40
By Jamie Tyson
I love my little X40- in fact I have two of them. The original drive was horrible and I wanted an upgrade as the disk caching and access time on the old one was unacceptable. I looked into using CF card as a boot drive but the random small write numbers were bad and it would cost a lot to purchase a CF card of sufficient speed and capacity. I seriously considered the OEM IBM replacement SSD or a ZIF-SSD adapter but none of those solutions can be had this inexpensively, so I decided to give this a try. I bought and installed this drive with no hassle on my X40. Using Windows XP (which I need for certain work and scientific applications) I'm to the desktop with no hourglass in under 30 seconds. I'm confused why another reviewer had trouble; perhaps their drive was bad.I've read horror stories about these drives failing. I will revise my review if that happens. For now I'm very satisfied as my little old notebook has new life and it's running better than it ever has! For the price of only $70 it's tough to beat the read and write performance of this drive. For those that care about the tech specs, my CrystalDiskMark scores:Sequential Read: 85.92MB/s Write: 58.58MB/s512k Read: 82.92MB/s Write: 39.47MB/s4k Read: 9.767MB/s Write: 1.274MB/s4k QD32 Read: 12.61MB/s Write: 1.328MB/sNot as fast as a modern SATA drive but certainly WAAAAAY better than the original drive. I'm content!

2NOT recognized by the BIOS in my IBM X40
By Ron Rahav
The manual, (if it can be called that - a small piece of paper) was in German. The jumper that's used for setting Master/Slave/CS is of extreme poor quality. Its plastic outer shell easily detaches from the metal inside. Most importantly, the drive was NOT recognized by the BIOS in my IBM X40, after replacing the existing internal PATA IDE. (Even though this Kingspec SSD drive did work when connected as external USB drive)

By H. Fanisalek
I used this to replace the HD in my thinkpad which was very old and slow. Now my thinkpad is amazingly faster.
