By C. Wilson
I bought this SSD because it seemed to be one of the more stable of the faster SSD's available as of August 2011. There are several out now that have higher read/write speeds and that are not much more expensive than this SSD, but when you read the reviews, blue screens and unresolved problems are frequent. Many manufacturers don't yet have the firmware to stabilize their SSD's. I"m installing this one in my work computer rather than a gaming machine and need stability as much as speed. The instructions that come with this SSD are inadequate. The firmware on the SSD should be updated "before" an operating system is installed on the drive. The instructions on how to update the firmware can be found in the support section of the Plextor site rather than the instructions in the box. Unfortunately, it looks like any future firmware updates will require me to wipe the SSD, install the new firmware and then reinstall all of my software and data on the SSD. Not happy about this process, but that's the cost of using leading edge technology SSD's right now. Also, it is important to immediately update all of your other computer drivers and firmware after installing an operating system. For this drive, I installed it on my computer, formatted the SSD, downloaded the new Plextor firmware and then updated the SSD before installing a new operating system, software and data. I've used it for two weeks now under a variety of loads and conditions and have had no problems whatsoever. The speed is a delight. I've spent too much of my life waiting on phone calls, fax machines, copy machines and computers to boot up or respond after mouse clicks. This SSD gave the computer enough of a speed boost that most of my wait time on the computer is gone now. Twenty five seconds from the press of the power button to a stable desktop and that time includes the time it took me to type in a password. Microsoft Outlook and Word pop open in the blink of an eye. Software updates take 30 seconds. My computer configuration is:Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z Micro ATX motherboardIntel i7 2600K 3.4 Ghz. Processor8gb DDR3 1600 RAM256GB Plextor SSD1 TB 7200 rpm Western Digital hard drive11/16/12 Update: Been using this drive for over a year now with zero problems or screw ups. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

By EH1476
This is my 5th SSD. I own 4 Kingstons SSD's. But, I found that Plextor is faster and more reliable (compatible with Windows 7, CentOS and Ubuntu)If you are looking for a larger (256GB+) SSD, Plextor is a good choice. I had problem with my Kingston SSD's. Some of the backup programs even couldn't recognize the drive!!If you plan to buy a new SSD, make sure it's fully compatible with your OS!

By Michael E. Wright
I purchased a Samsung 256GB SSD , 3Gbps interface, and this Plextor, and have used both for several months. Both worked fine in my HP Envy 17 3D after purchase of the drive caddy for the second drive location. I tried to use the bundled software to clone my existing drive to the SSD via exterior cable, then swapped in the SSDs. I grew impatient with the overly complicated bundled software, and had recently used and gained a little experience with Apricorn EZ Gig 3 with USB to SATA cable, so just used that and got it done in a few mouse clicks. The Plextor is faster than the Samsung, uses the latest and greatest Marvell controller for the same price, so that choice was a no-brainer.
