5best upgrade for a desktop or a notebook computer
By G
Have been using several of them for almost 6 months now. Very reliable brand and model. Faster than the one without SE model number.GENERAL INFO about SSDs:Probably I will point out what most heavy users already know. Upgrading the regular hard drive (even 7200 RPM ones) on a computer to an SSD is the BEST upgrade to improve your system performance. The OS will boot fast, the programs will be more responsive and the power consumption will be less, which is important especially on a portable computer.AVAILABLE CAPACITY:Now about the reported size of an SSD. Almost all SSDs will have reduced size due to its technology. The memory size reported in the specs is the actual size of the FLASH memory on the SSD hardware board. But the SSD controller chip (which is like a CPU with cache and I/O) will use some of this memory redundant. Complex algorithms are utilized to double the performance of a regular hard drive and file read/write operations. These complex algorithms use some extra FLASH memory so reducing the available size.AVAILABLE CAPACITY considering the OS:If the size is very important to a user then he/she needs to check how much disk space the OS is using. For a fact Windows 7 uses a lot. 10-20% for recovery/system protection (it is like a small backup system), which can be stopped and some disk space will be saved. Program installation directories contain many unnecessary files, left over by the installers. and so on. Shortly, much bigger space than a 10GB can be saved on a Windows system by cleaning up stuff and keeping the system clean (unistalling old/unused programs, etc.)Yes, SSDs are small but they will almost double the performance in many respects.

5works great!
By MadMiguel
I'm using this in my Playstation 3. I've had a couple of other SSDs in my Playstation 3 units and they all do great in their own way. Like the other 2 SSDs I had in my PS3 (Corsair Force 3 GT / Intel 520), they seem to load websites fairly fast. I've only had this lock up on my PS3 once in the 2 weeks, but my Corsair did that too, and the Intel never did. In one of the games I'm playing, Dead Rising 2, it did knock off the load time between cut scenes from 21 seconds using the stadard PS 3 hard drive to between 14-17 seconds with this Patriot. I might be saving a few seconds downloading updates/patches on games. I do notice that my hard drive only game, BattelField 1943 (available from the Limited Edition of Battlefield 2) loads faster than the Corsair/Intel SSD drives. I mostly got this to reduce the heat generated in the PS3 and to decrease load times and it does this well enough.

5upgrade for my brother
By ukryoshin
What do you do when you have a sibling always on your computer? You upgrade theirs so they get off yours! LOL Since I had good experiences so far with Patriot Memory, I went and looked for one of their latest and what a great opportunity to use my brother as a test subject. Now he is running older Intel 775, which was my one of my older gaming systems.QX6800 I think, Asus Striker II Extreme, Patriot Xtreme 1866MHZ I believe, Corsair HX650? and video card Evga 570GTX. Still a beast for what he uses it for and now it is even better. He cannot get enough on how fast everything loads now (windows 7 in 15sec) and now is off my back :)Now I know this board is Sata II and is Nvidia chipset but the performance gain is still worth it and when he upgrades to sata III he be ready.
