Features
- True Speed - an exclusive technology providing consistent high performance in real-life computing environments for the lifetime of the product. Unlike the competition, Plextor SSDs sustain read/write speeds for the life of the drive.
- Server-grade Marvell 88SS9174 controller chip for read/write speeds of up to 510MB/s and 360MB/s in sequential mode, and 70,000 and 65,000 IOPS for random read/write operations at 4K file size
- The M3S fully supports SATA 6Gb/s and is backward compatible with SATA 3Gb/s and SATA 1.5Gb/s
- The DDR3 DRAM cache transfers data faster and helps extend lifetime of the product
- The latest synchronous MLC NAND flash modules from Toshiba further enhance product reliability
- Five-year ironclad warranty provides reassurance of Plextor quality standards
- Smart firmware combines three advanced technologies to sustain performance: Bad Block Management, Global Wear Leveling, and Instant Restore. Bad Block Management and Global Wear Leveling optimize the way data is written on the drive and Instant Restore is a technique that overcomes the problem of declining speed after prolonged usage
- The M3S supports advanced functions such as S.M.A.R.T. failure prediction, the TRIM command, NCQ optimization, and superior Garbage Collection to further increase performance and reliability
Product Description
The Plextor 64GB M3S SATA 6Gb/s SSD provides read/write speeds up to 510/360 MB/s in sequential mode and up to 70,000/65,000 IOPS in random mode. The M3S is powered by True Speed which gives it the ability to deliver sustained high performance even after extended periods of continuous operation and years of intensive use. Performance specs of most SSDs are usually based on FOB (Fresh Out of the Box) products, which can result in overstated performance results. Plextor exceeds industry expectations by doing Enterprise Benchmark testing of consumer drives in a Dirty/Steady State to demonstrate sustained Read/Write performance. Each SSD drive is put through the rigors of a 20-hour high temperature burn-in test and strenuous simulations of real-world working environments. This type of testing gives a more realistic perspective of everyday performance. As a result Plextor SSDs have a 0.5% average annual failure rate, which is one of the lowest in the industry. True Speed maintains an extraordinarily high transfer speed rate while maintaining original performance levels in the long term without the severe write speed degradation common with other SSDs. True Speed optimizes data transfer speeds with exclusive firmware featuring Instant Restore, Global Wear Leveling, and Bad Block Management. The M3S is powered by the server grade Marvell 88SS9174 controller chip supporting a SATA III 6Gb/s interface and the highest-quality Japanese NAND flash by flash memory innovator Toshiba. Plextor's True Speed coupled with advanced firmware and best in class hardware ensures full potential performance even when data is heavily fragmented as a result of prolonged usage. The M3S is the ideal drive for power users, serious gamers, system integrators, and other users who demand fault tolerant performance. (SSD Technology is used by the military and aerospace industries because of its stability and durability.)

This SSD is one of the best out there.Very fast compared with my Agility 2 SSD. Applications load faster on the Plextor M3S SSD. Though I'm still using SATA II connection coz my X58 SATA III sucks. I'm sure on intel native SATA III connection, this SSD will scream!I was confused whether I should get this one or the Crucial M4. They both have the exact same controller. But the Plextor M3S has 512 MB cache, while crucial m4 only has 128 mb. Plus this one has a 5-year warranty.Plextor M3S has faster write speed, as well as higher IOPS.Tried ATTO Disk Benchmark & I'm getting both read and write at 280 mb/s @SATA II speed with ICH10R.Note: Get it from newegg. It's cheaper! They had it for $299 last time after promotion code. Even now it's cheaper (1/26/2012). For some reason Amazon keeps ignoring the lower price from other sites. I should have bought newegg GC instead. I bought this for $389 here. Newegg $299, so $90 difference is HUGE!

I had wanted a SSD since they came out, but the absurd prices kept me away - until now. The combination of: 1) Price, 2) Storage size, 3) Speed, and 4) Warranty makes this a no-brainer. If you are going to make the change to solid-state, be sure to include this particular drive in the stable. You will end up back here to make your final purchase. As expected, overall responsiveness of my system has dramatically improved. My PC goes from off to google in about 28 seconds. The windows install went very quickly. I am using a relatively old motherboard with SATA 2.0, so keep in mind that I am limited to about half of the speed this drive has to offer. If you are switching your system drive, I would recommend a clean install and fore-go any "system transfer" software. This unit also comes with the 3.5" adapter to fit into desktop cases, which was a nice addition.

My drive died and I needed a new one so I went SSD. I mean why not. Chose this because it was cheap and had the highest speeds at this price point. Before I had a 500gb 5400 rpm drive. It literally quintupled read/write speeds (I don't really know that - but its blazing fast). I am using it in a Macbook pro 2010 model (you'll have to use the mount screws that are on your old hd since the ones the drive comes with don't fit in the mac mounting bracket - which means you'll need a T6 screwdriver). OS X installed in about 10 minutes off of a USB (opposed to generally 45 min to 1 hour). Fast and speedy. Computer boots in 3 seconds. Windows gives it a 7.9 in the Win Experience Index.People all over the the mac forums are saying to get the Intel 520 series SSD, but those are running around $240 for 120 gb. This one works great at $160 and I doubt you'd notice an 80 dollar difference in speed.NOTE: If you aren't trying to run OS X on your mac to save space, you have to install OS X first to get the efi update for SATA controller speeds above 1.5 gb/s. The only way I could get it was by installing os x first, but then you can delete os x, and put windows on there.
