Boot-up times, after the BIOS completes loading, on Windows 7 64, including antivirus program, averages 25 seconds to a usable, stable desktop.This is not an exaggeration: 25 seconds.Launching programs installed on the SSD does not get the obvious speed bump, compared to a fast magnetic drive, as boot times. But since the virtual drive is on the SSD overall computer performance is faster.While it is somewhat inconvenient to shift documents, images and some program files to a secondary drive, because of the small size of the SSD, that is a relatively minor issue. If you can afford a larger SSD get one.In twenty years of computer maintenance/building/upgrade this is the single most notable upgrade I have ever seen in terms of an obvious and indisputable speed bump.Expensive as SSDs are, this was a lot less expensive than building a new i7 machine.

I recently added this SSD to my MacBook for more data reliability (having had several hard drives die in the last year) and speed. I feel a lot better about carting my laptop around with this SSD rather than a fragile platter-based drive. Installing the drive was very easy. I made a Time Machine backup of my system, pulled out the old drive, put in the new SSD, and rebooted with the OS install disc and choose to format the SSD and restore from Time Machine. Very easy. The only point to be aware of is that you'll need a torx screwdriver set to move the drive caddy from the old drive to the SSD during the swap. I ran a speed test on my laptop before and after installing the SSD. The drive is at least four times faster than the old hard disk and the overall system speed went up noticeably. Boot time is very noticeably shorter as is any application requiring you work with multiple files at once or large files.Not the fastest SSD on the market but close and the price was better. Has TRIM support which is critical.

I chose the Corsair Nova over the well known OCZ Agility because of the higher read speed.... I have been using it for 3 days with the Fedora 11 Linux operating system(gnome desktop).... SSDs with the Indilinx controllers are supposed to work much faster with linux 'ext4' than windows 'ntfs' format....format(my system/HP laptop):/boot partition 'ext3' format(200meg)/swap partition 'swap' format(4gigs)/(root) partition 'ext4' format(8gigs)/home partition 'ext4' format(the rest 47gigs)boot time with the old fujitsu(5400rpm) was 30 seconds to login screen/10 second to start(total 40 seconds)....boot time with corsair nova is 12 seconds to login screen/2 seconds to start(total 14 seconds)....In 2 months I will switch to Fedora 13 with 2.6.33 kernel.... Than I can format /boot with 'ext4' for faster boot, and I will also be able to use the TRIM control that is supported by this drive....Everything is fast now.... Software updates install like lightning.... Desktop response with gnome is instant now.... Firefox loads cached pages super fast to make browsing even better(wasn't expecting that)....I am sure this drive would be just fine with WINDOWS also....I will NEVER go back to hard drives....
