By Glenn
I purchased this SSD to be used as a plug-compatible IDE/PATA drive replacement for an HP Pavilion DV1000 series laptop - specifically a DV1340us model, running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. I cloned my existing drive to the Transcend SSD. Although the system started up faster, as expected, the computer would freeze for 5-10 seconds at a time during routine operations like clicking on a link in Internet Explorer. The rotating, "please wait" icons would freeze as well as the cursor, and even the Process Explorer program that I used to try to monitor each process running on the computer would freeze. This would happen about once per minute, sometimes more. I contacted Transcend technical support but they had no useful suggestions. To try to determine if this was a software issue, I cloned the SSD itself to a new standard Hitachi IDE hard drive, and then booted the system with the Hitachi drive. It worked perfectly and weeks later is still working perfectly. Conclusion: although the Transcend SSD reads and writes reliably, the one I received hangs up the operating system for indeterminate reasons, negating any speed increase and causing great frustration as you wait 10 seconds or more for the system to recover, time after time. Not recommended. One star.

This drive is nice. Use to go for $500, waited for price to come down, at less than $180 it was a good buy. Works excellent in my older IBM T42 for primary drive. Just cloned my original boot disk to the SSD and I was off and running with no delays. FAST, FAST, FAST

This is the first Transcend product I've owned and so far, so good!I just replaced a Western Digital WD1200BEVE with the TS128GPSD320 in an old 'garage sale' Dell Latitude D600 and the system flies! I'm running a dual boot Windows 7 / Ubuntu setup, and so far Windows 7, the typical resource hog, is at least 50 - 60% faster. After replacing the HDD with the SSD, the limiting factor went from the HDD to the laptop's processor, as I carefully watched the Resource Monitor in the Win 7 environment.Typically, I purchase Crucial M4, but because the D600 requires the old-style IDE interface, the M4 was not an option because it is SATA. A lack of 2.5" IDE SSDs in the marketplace required that I look at brands other than Crucial and Intel, etc. Transcend SSD was available in IDE, was low priced, a large capacity at 128 GB, and it got very good reviews. This drive does what it is supposed to do out of the box.For cloning, I first tried to use the Crucial (Apricorn) clone boot CD, but I got nothing but read errors. DD was an option, but my laziness lead me to download and burn Clonezilla, which worked like a charm. I used an IDE to USB connector for the destination drive - the Transcend - and cloned the resident WD1200BEVE as the source. It took about 30 minutes and after replacing the Western Digital HDD with the Transcend SSD, the Latitude booted right up and worked on first boot!I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend the Transcend 128 GB 2.5" SSD IDE MLC (TS128GPSD320).
