I was happy when I got this little drive, but after one month of use, it became a disaster :(in simple words, SSD technology of OCZ Apex is NOT working with Windows Vista and windows XP !!! .... It may work with the new Windows 7 (at least this is what marketing people are saying ! )I have followed all directions of OCZ forums, from aligning partitions , modifying registry, to disabling hibernate, swap drives, and search indexer !!!!! imagine what things you need to disable in order to get this SSD work with windows vista and XP !!!! unbelievable !!!! after all those changes it is still damn slow ... keep pausing for minutes !!! .... and dead slow with anti-virus definition update !!!!Ofcourse, my problems became disaster when the capacity of hard drive reached 70% !!! but it was also pausing before reaching that limit !In conclusion, OCZ Apex SSD is not practical to use with either Vista or Win XP ...... hope that Windows 7 will resolve the problem ... till then I am reverting back to my old Hitachi 7200 RPM drive

I have run this drive with both windows vista and windows 7 with zero problems.I did not have to configure anything at all, it was a simple plug it in and install windows.I would highly recommend this drive for use on any modern OS.I like this drive so much that I bought a second one for my desktop PC.This drive is made for the Sata II bus, but if you are still running a first generation Sata, you will still see a massive performance increase due to its almost instant seek times.I ran the PC Pitstop benchmark on my laptop with this drive in it, and it scored in the top zero percent. (it had no other drives as fast in its data base)

I threw one of these into a Sony VAIO laptop and it screams!!! Not only that, but my battery life is a lot better. I no longer worry about damaging my hard drive when walking around with my laptop while it is on.After reading the negative reviews, I thought I would post. Any and all hard drives will slow down if you fill them up. Don't plan on maintaining break-neck speed on any setup when you are using most of the capacity.Make sure you check out the OCZ support forums when installing. There are some very good tips that work with any SSD to maintain performance, even at high capacity utilization. In my opinion, the single most effective method for maintaining speed and extending the life of your drive is to create a RAM disk (I used VSUITE RAM Disk - Free Edition) using extra memory and then redirecting TEMP files, browser cache, and another other highly active files to the RAM disk. This will speed up your temp files and extend the life of your SSD by avoiding constant writing. There are settings in VSUITE to write the RAM disk to the drive at shutdown and to load them back into RAM at startup.If you just throw the drive in the machine, you can expect slowdown. If you follow the support forums and tweak things just right, you will find years of fast usage. I have been running this on XP for almost a year and it still screams.
