By Kenneth R. Wilkerson
The 1st review is rather skewed...of course you'll have a problem with this device...IF you don't read the instructions...which clearly state the drive is unformatted...you will HAVE ALOT of problems with this device. However, if you follow the instructions you will soon have an item that DOUBLES your SSD capacity and works superbly. I LOVE my ICYDOCK...and have ordered a second one...it just takes a little patience to get the device to work...it DEFINATELY is not a PLUG AND PLAY out of the box.

By Mojave Mike
What this is: it's an adapter into which a 2.5 inch SSD is installed, and connects to a 3.5 inch mechanical disk drive. The claim is you get a hybrid partition up to twice the capacity of the SSD, and a second partition on the rest of the HDD for "normal" storage. The hybrid partition is supposed to be much faster than the HDD ever could be. It sounds rather nifty. The instructions say it looks just like any other SATA-2 disk to the system, except with two partitions. The problem is: though my BIOS sees the drive present, it is not visible to Windows 7 disk management system at all. It fits in the chassis perfectly as a 3.5 inch HDD would, but since Windows 7 doesn't see it at all, it is useless and disappointing. There are no downloads for the device other than a product image. There are no useful troubleshooting tips. I don't even see a list of OS's that it is compatible with on the manufacturers web site. My advice: forgo this fancy bit of unusable hardware, and install the SSD on a metal disk adapter plate or in a shuttle / USB adapter of some form.It is not even useable to Acronis or Windows Installer; Acronis reports errors reading from many sectors on the combined drive system reporting even negative block numbers in it's diagnostics.Note: the SSD installed is a brand-new 60GB disk, and is combined with a 160GB new raptor; both are SATA-II 3Gb/S devices. The motherboard is a new DZ68DB with I5.Additional note: as an alternative configuration their docs imply it can also be used as an adapter. Again, it appears to the BIOS, but not to the OS, and is therefore useless. One last word: both of the disks involved function perfectly as individual disks without this device in the way.
