5Great performance improvement
By Mike N
I installed this 600GB unit on a Lenovo Thinkpad T510 laptop / Windows 7 as an upgrade to the internal 260GB AES128 encrypting hard drive and am very happy with the performance on bootup time, program load, and resume from hibernation.Installation went without a hitch - the 9MM height is physically compatible with the existing HD in the laptop, and I could reuse the mounting hardware. In my case, I backed up the existing HD image first with Acronis, then restored to the SSD, although the Lenovo Image Backup utility would also have worked for that. Note that the standard Intel migration software works fine for a desktop where both hard drives can be installed at the same time, laptop migrations will require a USB-to-SATA adapter, either sold separately or packaged in a different SKU of the Intel "Retail Package". When I restored, I forgot to expand the partition size. It originally came up as 260 GB of space, but fortunately Windows 7 includes functionality to expand the disk partition to use the rest of the space (557.7 Gb user space total) I installed the Intel SSD toolbox; it recommended turning off Superfetch on my system, which I did. Being concerned about the latest software, I also checked the firmware version as recommended on the packaging insert. This is the only thing supremely confusing - the Intel firmware page lists the latest version as 1.7 , January 2011 , while the SSD toolbox shows the version on the drive as 4PC10302 . I believe that is the latest for this SSD. The previous drive was set for encryption and the Thinkpad BIOS hard drive password, this drive also worked to enable the hard drive password + encryption. BIOS + hard drive controller support is required to enable the encryption features with hard drive password. If the system does not support the hard drive password, it operates as a standard unencrypted hard drive.

1Wish i could rate this less then 1 star....

The "8mb" brick bug has been a problem since these drives first came out and they still have not fixed the error. The only solution offered is a replacement drive which of course has the same problems. Completely dismayed that when you spend $1000 on a 600gb drive it just ends up being a paper weight sitting on my desk because there is no way I can trust putting data on it. Replaced my drive with a 512mb OCZ Vertex 4 and have not had a single problem for several months. Buy an OCZ instead and save yourself the trouble and $

5Best investment
By alex
Best investment ever. Why purchase a small ssd, and deciding what to be fast and what in an external drive?Installed it in a core i7 laptop, and got the fastest laptop around. Can run 3 large virtual machines with no degradation.I just couldn't go back no. everything is so fast.
