5Perfect upgrade for Acer Aspire with original 8 gb SSD
By Gracie W
If you can carefully follow the instructional videos by "tnkgrl" on modding the acer aspire one,you should have no trouble installing this upgrade. Following her videos, I installed this SSD and it worked beautifully the first time. (My original ssd had failed). This one (Super Talent FEM32GF13M) fits exactly into the holder, no mods needed, and the ZIF cable can be reused in the install. (Unlike tnkgrl, I left the emi core on the ZIF cable). I also installed more RAMAcer Aspire One (AOA150) 1GB Memory Ram Upgrade (A-Tech Brand). and replaced the wifi card with a dual band "n" card Intel 4965AGN_MM1 Wireless WiFi Link Mini PCIe Adapter, as long as it was disassembled. Reloaded with Ubuntu Linux i386 vers 9.10, and now my little netbook is as fast as any entry level notebook. Added a 32gb SD card Transcend 32 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS32GSDHC6, now I have 60gb of solid state storage, a lot more rugged than installing a 1.8 hard drive, and uses less battery. When I need more storage I plug in a 64gb flash drive. Best of all - I can travel light, compute fast, store a lot of data, and 12 hrs battery time with a 9 cell installed.Aspire One Battery 9-cell 7900mAh Netbook Battery Lasts up to 12:10 Hours Longer Than the 3 or 6 Cells Acer Aspire One Battery - Color: Black

4Big improvement - but know what you're doing.
By Steven E. Summers
With the installation of this upgraded flash memory module, the performance of my Acer Aspire One improved dramatically. It's still not as fast as a higher end laptop, but it's faster than the typical hard drives in lower end machines - and WAY faster than the anemic 8GB memory module it came with.Warning though - you have to remove about 20 screws and carefully disassemble the machine, including three ribbon cables, to install this. If you have to think to remember which way to turn a screwdriver, don't attempt it. However, if you know what you're doing, it's not that hard. It took me about a half hour. It was my second time though - I added a 1GB RAM module when I bought the machine over a year ago.If you get this, get a 1GB memory module too, and install it at the same time. with 1.5GB of RAM and 32GB of fast flash, the AA1 runs Win7 Home Premium just fine.

5Works in my HP Mini 1000 1030NR
By stephenghowe
5 stars simply because it fits and works: there are few or no better options out there. When I reinstalled the original Windows XP operating system, blazing fast. After Microsoft Update, lots of disk thrash. Some things that help:1. Emerge Desktop is a freeware replacement for the Windows shell desktop. It's the most recent change I made, and its made an enormous difference in the speed of the machine. It doesn't look like much; on the plus side, no clutter, and the huge increase in speed greatly outweighs any loss of style.2. Alignment: Lifehacker has an article on how to use a GParted boot disk to align the ssd. I used a 2gb sd card: oddly, when I specified a 2mb offset, it reported 3, and when I specified 1mb, it reported 0mb. Works fine anyway.3. Lifehacker also has an article on how to get Firefox to use ram for cache without a ramdisk.4. OCZ has an article on how to make Windows XP "ssd friendly". Try using the less unusual stuff, like turning off disk indexing. I've kept restore (had some recent drive disasters). The ramdisk stuff is interesting to fool with, but have ditched it in favor of the Lifehacker Firefox approach.5. Most importantly, in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance, select "Adjust for best performance". Turns off eye candy: the desktop looks bleak, but endless thrashing stops. Turned font smoothing back on (the one resource hog I would actually miss).6. Boots and program launches still take a minute or two to load. Must be patient. Standby is your friend.7. Disable automatic updates: I've found that when an XP system is at its most unresponsive, an automatic update is usually involved. Use the "Windows Update" webpage instead. I've selected the "just notify me" option in Control Panel/Automatic Updates.8. CCleaner (third party freeware).9. Install Ubuntu on its own partition (I think "alongside" in the install means its own partition these days, used to mean an emulation in Windows). Its much faster and more reliable in every regard, and its Unity desktop is better suited to a small netbook's screen. Only reason I bother with XP is to run Microsoft Office (unfortunately, the business world is chained to that expensive bloatware).Things that hurt (or destroy):1. Flashfire (third party freeware): Don't use it, seems to break the file system these days (couldn't install Adobe Reader with it).2. Asus has a program that makes messes with the usb port to make it more compatible with iPhone charging requirements. Stay away, it fried my operating system beyond all repair (but was a good excuse to buy this drive).3. FAT file system; despite the prior review, internet searches indicate NFTS is faster.
