TRANSCEND TS64GSSD25S-M 64gb 2.5 inch SATA solid state disk (SSD)
Transcend's SATA Solid State Drive (SSD) is an ideal replacement for your Hard Disk Drive. Featuring solid state memory, it has no moving parts, uses less power, and is not susceptible to mechanical failure as a result of vibrations. With a thickness of only 7.4mm, it is very easy to install in PCs and notebooks. The 2.5-inch IDE interface SSD has a tough outer metal case, large storage capacity, high reliability, and anti-shock resistance, which makes it the perfect choice to replace your old, power hungry Hard Drive.

I bought this drive used about a year before it died. The person I bought it from only used it for about a week before they upgraded it to a larger ssd drive because they needed more space. During the time it worked for me, it was extremely fast and woke up my old p4 system. I installed it in running windows xp pro and Ubuntu 9.10 side-by-side. it was super quiet, no more hard drive whirring noise anymore, I really loved the drive, that was until I power cycled my system and I got a message saying no boot device detected, I entered my bios and it now reads as JM loader 001. with a capacity of 4.2gb I pulled it and ran diagnostics on it, to no avail, still only recognizes as JM loader with 4.2gb capacity. I cannot even reformat the drive, either in a windows or linux environment. The Drive is DEAD I wasn't even able to run data recovery on it. (Luckily MOST of my important data was stored on an external 500gb usb western digital drive.) I did a lot of research on the issues, but I could find no fix or repair for it. Apparently I'm not the only person with this issue. there are a lot of people with this and similar drives with the EXACT same issue, my only comfort is I was one of the lucky ones getting a whole year of use from it as most people are lucky to get a couple of months before this issue occurs.Pros: Energy efficient, Quiet, Generates virtually 0 heat, Lightning fast.Cons: EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE - This drive will fail, usually sooner rather than later. Conclusion: I plan to avoid inexpensive SSD drives in the near future, Plan to buy an STEC SSD soon, it might cost around $2,000.00 but will be worth every penny. (The united states military believes so, they use them for mission critical storage and their reputation for extreme reliability in the most extreme enviroments and have done so for over 20 years.)
